Amir Khan has vowed to send Floyd Mayweather Jr into retirement if the two can finalise the details on a welterweight showdown next year.
WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Khan confirmed on Tuesday that Mayweather has verbally agreed to a deal, having been called out by the Brit for months.
And Khan feels that he will be facing the unbeaten American, who beat Victor Ortiz via knockout last month, just as he is beginning to show signs of decline. Khan claims that Mayweather was far from his slippery, elusive best against Ortiz before he scored the decisive knockdown.
"It's all about timing," Khan told the Times. "Mayweather will be 35. He's hit his peak. I'm getting stronger. It happens to all the best fighters, to Ali and all the big names. They get beaten in the end.
"You can see now Mayweather gets caught. That never happened before. He's walking forward and you can see he's very robotic compared to those early days. He was amazing.
"I've tasted defeat and I don't ever want to taste it again. Floyd hasn't been beaten and that's one thing I know he's scared of. He admits it himself. He loses and that's him finished. And his time is up."
Khan has never been shy of picking a fight on Twitter, rowing with Kell Brook and Marcos Maidana in recent months, and his barbs appear to have got under Mayweather's skin.
"Floyd used to tweet me a lot," Khan said. "He used to follow me on Twitter. But as soon as he knew I wanted to fight him, he unfollowed me. What a girl, man. He's gone soft."
Meanwhile, Khan says he will invite US President Barack Obama to his clash against Lamont Peterson on December 10 in Washington. "I've heard he's a big boxing fan and this is going to be one of the biggest fights in Washington over the last 20 or 30 years," Khan told the Mirror.
